K-Drama: Dummy Mommy/Foolish Mom/ 바보 엄마 Review

It’s been a long time since I didn’t write any Korean drama review. So, this time I’m going to write one. When I lived in Lombok for several months, I hardly have Korean entertainment, until one day I figured a Korean shopping mall channel. Even though it is a shopping mall channel, but it have several dramas and variety shows played everyday, interchange with the shopping mall program. 
It showed several old dramas like, Lover in Paris, Something Happened in Bali, 3 Days, Salaryman Cho Han Ji, Madame Butterfly, Smile You, and others. I’ve watched most of the drama everyday, from Monday to Sunday. I feel like I found my way out from boredom. When I missed the episode, I watched it in the office or wait for the re-run. 
Well, then I found this drama called Dummy Mommy very inspiring, touching, and I feel like that I have to do the review. Even though, it is an old drama, but I want all of you watch it. So here’s the review of this drama. Sorry for the longggg introduction!

Kim Hyun Joo as Kim Young Joo

She is the main character in this drama. She played as a child of the dummy mom and a mom of a genius girl. She acts as a protagonist and antagonist at the same time. She is indeed a beautiful actress and she can act every type of character. Thumbs up for her! 

Ahn Seo Hyun as Park Dat Byeol

You might know her great acting from several dramas. Probably you remember the sister of Suzy in Dream High? Yup, it is her! She can act as an annoying girl but also a mature one. In this drama, she acted as a genius girl. Even though she is only 7 years old, she has already gotten into university. 

Ha Hee Ra as Kim Sun Young

If you watched “The President (2010”, you will find her acting is ridiculously amazing! In this drama, she is the main subject, because she is the dummy mom. She is the mom of Kim Young Joo. Even though she is a dummy, her love for her daughter is endless. You will find out in the drama how wonderful a mom’s love is.

Shin Hyun Joon as Choi Go Man

Shin Hyun Joon is very capable in acting a very unique character. In this drama, you will find his unique character, which displayed an indeed genius mathematician, I guess, and a rich man. Because of his genius-ness, his character is a little bit eccentric. You will find humor in this mellow drama, because of him. Fyi, even his name is pretty unique, if you read it, choigoman, it means only the best.

Kim Jeong Hoon as Lee Je Ha

There were not much eye candy boys in this drama. Well, you can say he is one of it. Kim Jeong Hoon act as a doctor and a friend of Kim Young Joo (Kim Hyun Joo). He is in love with her, but Kim Young Joo has already got married and have a daughter.

Kim Tae Woo as Park Jung Do

He is the antagonist of this drama, one of the troublemakers. He is the father of Park Dat Byeol. He is a law school professor, but was blinded by his greed of rank.

Yoo In Young as Oh Chae Rin
She is the daughter of a high-class gangster who is also the owner of the university that Park Jung Do worked for. She liked Park Jung Do and Park Jung Do need her to became the dean of the law school. 

Gong Hyun Joo as Han Soo In
I was pretty sad that she is always got the supporting character and played an antagonist that turned into protagonist because she lost with the main character. In every drama I watched her, she is always got that kind of similar character. Any way, she acted as the ex-girlfriend of Lee Je Ha. She is also a doctor.

Park Hyun Sik as Oh Soo Hyun
I was happy that I saw some familiar eye candy boy inside the drama. Yes, he is Park Hyun Sik from ZE:A! I didn’t find him really attractive when he is with ZE:A (because Kim Dong Joon is my love!), but his acting was pretty good here! I’ve watched two of his drama, and his acting was good! He is a friend of Park Dat Byeol, a band player, and the brother of Oh Chae Rin.

Kim Ha Kyun as Oh Min Seok
He is the father of Oh Chae Rin and Oh Soo Hyun, who is a high-class gangster. He used to be the employee of Choi Go Man.

Jo Deok Hyun as Butler Kim
He is the butler of Choi Go Man. He is also humorous like his boss and soft hearted guy in the same time. He brings up the mood in the drama.

Lee Joo Sil as Seo Gob Dan
She played as the mom of Kim Sun Young. She became a mentally stressed old woman, because of her doing toward Kim Sun Young. Kim Young Joo called her mom, but actually she is her grandmother.

Park Cheol Min as Kim Dae Young
He is the uncle of Kim Young Joo or the brother of Kim Sun Young. He is one of the troublemakers in Young Joo’s life, but on the other side, he wanted to help his dummy sister to reconcile with her daughter.

Dummy Mommy is a story about the secrets of a top magazine editor, Kim Young Joo’s life. She almost had a perfect life, in her employees’ eyes, but actually she is hiding so much about her personal life from her employees. She is hiding the fact that the one she called sister, is her mom and her husband is cheating on her. Even she is hiding her heart problem from her family. She tried to be a perfect mom for her daughter. She doesn’t want her daughter to know about the secrets she have.

Promotion

I happened to watch this drama. I’ve never seen their original trailer before I watched it. But since the drama is stared by Kim Hyun Joo, I definitely must watch it. I’m a big fan of her since she appeared as Goo Jun Pyo’s sister. In other words, the drama is quite known because Kim Hyun Joo stared it. There were several veterans inside it, like Ha Hee Ra, Shin Hyun Joon, and others.

Characters

Whenever I watch this drama, I was always amazed with Ha Hee Ra’s acting skills. She definitely portrays the dumb character really well. Despite her dumbness, she still has a big heart, great cooking skills that even make someone falls in love with her.
Kim Hyun Joo also gave an excellent acting here. She can be really mean to her employee’s, sister slash mom, daughter, and husband. But on the other side, she can be a kind-hearted and very caring to her daughter. She really does everything for her daughter.
Ahn So Hyun, the little girl in the drama, is amazingly good! She really nailed to be a genius little girl. And even more she still managed to show that she is just a little girl at heart. She wants to be like other girls out there that she wanted to spend time with her parents, having girl friends, and just having fun. Just because she is genius, doesn’t mean she is mature enough to understand the truth of her family condition.
The 3 female main characters are really impressed me. I was very satisfied with the performance they have. Good job!
Does anyone of you watch Oh La La Couple from KBS? He acted as a serious hotel manager guy and cheat on his wife. But then, he acts like a female because his soul and his wife were exchanged. But in this drama, he act funny, mellow, and bold in the same time. He is a real veteran actor! Even his appearance as an old man was indeed impressive. At some point, you might notice that he is quite like a dumb, but on the other point he looks like a great gentleman.
In my opinion, the 4 characters really display a great acting. But there is also some downfall character in this drama. I am bored with the acting of Yoo In Young. In most of her dramas, she always acted as an antagonist or a spoiled brat, or a seductive troublemaker. She doesn’t have much variety. And indeed, in this drama she played as an antagonist.
Kim Tae Woo who act as Park Jung Do, quite disappoint me. He acted too childish and too coward. I really dislike his character. I guess he is not appropriate to be a professor and a dad. But, at the end of the drama, I guess he has reflecting his own mistake, and he is getting better.
I’ve got to highlight another supporting character which is Park Hyunsik. OMO! My ZE:A oppas have been growing sooooo good! They keep improving their skills. And now, Park Hyunsik join his teammate, Kim Dong Jun to jump into acting industry. He quite have a safe role, so it does not disappointing. He does his role nicely as a rookie. Good job, oppa!
Fashion
Since it’s setting is in a magazine office, so it surely does require a good fashion taste. Actually, the fashion it self was just okay, not a really high fashion one, like we used to see in American movies. I didn’t really going to review much about the fashion in this drama.
Anyway, Kim Hyun Joo is always looks good in everything. Whether it’s off-duty or on-duty. Even Shin Hyun Joon looks flattering in suit or bathrobe. LOL!

Storyline

I’m going to add another point to be reviewed which is storyline. This drama has a simple storyline but has a powerful massage. They took a real situation that happened in society; so the viewers can relate how the characters feel and appreciate people surround them.

The Pros of the Drama

• It was a touching drama, that will make you realized that you should connect with society.
• The storyline is simple, so it is easy for viewers to understand the flow.
• A free therapy for people who are having family issues or not in a good relationship with their family.

The Cons of the Drama

• Not enough good players inside the drama. I think if they use really good actors and actresses, this drama will be a hit one. The storyline was good enough, though!

From this drama I learned...

I’m in love with the moral message from this drama! I learned the importance of family. And most of all, accept who they are. No matter how annoying your mother is, or how workaholic your dad is, or how lousy your sibling is, accept who they are. Don’t ever try to hide them from your friends or acquaintances. You should be proud of who you are and your family! 
Don't wait till something bad or good happened to your family, then you started to care about them. Well, we don't know when God will call them. Anytime God wants, people have no choice. So start care your family, from now on! 
If you have trouble accepting your family condition or family members’ characteristic, you should really watch this drama. I hope this drama can be free therapy for you.

VISIT INDONESIA: Kuta & Tanjung A'an Beach Trip

Tanjung A'an Main Entrance

Lombok has dozens of beautiful beaches. Two of them is Kuta and Tanjung A’an Beach. Unlike Kuta in Bali, Lombok’s Kuta has unique sand and connected with the Indian Ocean. Not far from Kuta Lombok, there is Tanjung A’an beach that is 180 degree different from its’ neighbor. 

Kuta Beach is located at the southern Lombok, around 30 minutes from Lombok International Airport. Kuta beach’s sand is like a peppercorn. It is harsher than other usual sandy beach. Even though it is harsh, Kuta beach has many to offer. The wave here was a haven for surfer (and any other Southern beaches in Lombok!). Restaurants are lining up along the beach. You could do snorkeling or diving, but I didn’t recommend it. What I like the most is the scenery. It was not too crowded like Senggigi Beach.

Kuta Beach has its own legend. There was once a princess named Mandalika. She is very popular because of her beauty. Because of the popularity, she is confused which man she should pick to be with her. She wants all of them. In the end, she killed herself by drowning into the sea. Soon after that, there were lots of sea-worm came up to the surface and the locals believe it was the Princess's incarnation. That’s why around February the locals celebrate Bau Nyale at Kuta Beach.

One of the Highlight Background in Tanjung A'an

When my family and I arrived here, we are stunned! I found no one on the first beach. But then we went north, and found wonderful crystal water and a perfect tide. The weather was not good for me - it was really hot. So I didn’t dare to swim, because I could get a sunburn and it is not good to get a sunburn when you have to work in the afternoon!

How to know which is the main entrance of Tanjung A'an, you have to see some stalls, a lot of rocks on the seaside, and the water is very clear! But don't worry about it, just explore the beach! You won't regret it. When you came here, do visit Batu Payung or Umbrella Rock, when the tide is low, you can take a photo there. Unfortunately, I've never got the chance to get a photo there.

After we finished adoring the beach, we stopped by at Sade Village. It is a traditional village of Sasak’s Tribe, the authentic tribe of Lombok Island. Unfortunately, the village itself is not really authentic, it became a “showcase” instead displaying the real culture of Sasak. But, I still recommend everyone to come here and see the traditional house and how Sasak’s people live. The local guide will help you to understand about the life as a Sasak people. If you want to see the authentic village, not for tourist purposes, you can visit Rambitan Village, it is nearby the Sade Village.

Well, that was my first time to the Southern Beaches. But, ever since then, whenever new guests (not my clients, but my friends or family) coming, I took them to see those beaches. And all of them are stunned! I was pretty proud that I could visit those beaches and reminded myself that God is good. He gave Indonesia wonderful scenery evenly. From Sabang to Merauke, He gave each of them one uniqueness and let Indonesia became the diamonds of the world. 

So here is some tips, when you are going to visit the Southern Beaches in Lombok:

• Be aware of the little kids selling souvenirs. They can be pretty aggressive and annoying. If you are international tourist, I suggest you to stay near your guide or driver or do not try to look at the souvenir at all if you don’t have the intention to buy it.
• Wear sunscreen, sunglasses, hats or anything that shield you from the bad UV.
•  Bring an appropriate swimwear. Lombok is very different from Bali. Especially in the Southern part, they are still have a strong norms applied. You have to wear a cloth or swimwear - you must not be naked.
• Learn few words in Bahasa. There aren’t many people in the beach that can speak English. As I’ve said before, Lombok is very different from Bali. You cannot find the street vendors near the beach can speak English fluently.
• Bring small changes to pay for the toilets or shower. It costs around Rp. 2.000,-
• Watch out your belonging. The southern people can be pretty aggressive; they were used to be the most dangerous area in Lombok before. They are can quite jealous with people who have more than them, so make sure you keep your valuables safe with you.
• If you don’t use tour operator in Lombok, prepare yourself a driving license and learn how ride motorbike. There aren’t many car rental, but there are lots of motorbike rental.

BEAUTY: EMPTIES 2015 REVIEW

Well, I’ve collected my skin care and makeup empties for several months through 2015. To end this year’s beauty review post, I’m going to do a recap review by doing Empties Review! I’ll try to make a video about it also, but in the meantime, I’ll post the written review first. 

Clean & Clear Essentials Oil-Control Toner

This toner does an amazing job despite it is a drugstore product. It contains salicylic acid, which is good in clearing acne. I have an acne prone skin, so I used this toner when I have ‘that time of the month’. I didn’t recommend it for who have sensitive skin because it contains alcohol too. Even I didn’t use it everyday because it can cause dryness. 

Banila Co Hello Sunny Sun Moisturizer SPF 35 PA ++

This is my skincare must have in my morning routines. Basically, it’s a moisturizer that contains SPF. It acts as my morning moisturizer. I’ve done the detailed review of this product on my Sunscreen Battle here. 

Dr. Jart Spot Out

This is my ultimate skincare product. It is a gel that treats your acne spots. It was quite expensive, but it does worth the money. If you have an acne prone skin or have acne in few times in a month you should give this product a try. This product contains some magic power and will make your acne poof! because, it contains salicylic acid which is good for acne prone skin. 

Lancome Hydra Zen Neocalm

It’s basically a serum/essence for me. But before I used this as a serum/essence, I used it as a spot treatment. At that time I was ran out of my Dr. Jart Spot Out, and when I was strolling around a department store, I was attracted to drop by Lancome’s counter. I asked the sales-woman if they have it. She gave me this and I bought it without asking too much. (Don’t do it okay?) Even though I really didn’t know how the product work, but it does pretty good job. It clarify and sooth your skin. The redness caused by some pimples goes away. Basically, it treats your discoloration. This work also with acnes, but the process is not as fast as Dr. Jart Spot Out to pop out the acne. This product became my favorite product in my skincare routine.

Pond’s Cleansing Wipes

I’ve finished 5 packets of these wipes since last year. I first found it in a supermarket and I fell in love with it since then. I liked it because it’s easy to find and does a pretty good job. I used it to cleanse simple makeup or when my face feels tacky. The only downside is sometimes it became too soapy if you kept it for too long. You have to storage it well and don’t let it get too much sunshine (keep in a cool place). So, if you are the one who are lazy to do double cleansing, I didn’t recommend it if this product has changed to soap-soaked wipes, because the residue might break you out and leave dirty feeling afterward.

Jill Stuart Lip Essence UV SPF 18

I don’t know whether it’s a skincare product or makeup, but one thing sure is this is an amazing product. Unfortunately, the one I have is not for sale. I got it as a gift from the other Jill Stuart my mom bought. By the way, Jill Stuart is not available in Indonesia. I got mine from Hongkong. This lip essence is a lip-gloss type that contains SPF! YAY! I think I kinda addicted with products that contain SPF. Since I can’t find this product here, I’ve already purchased another lip sun protection product from Loccitane.

Jill Stuart Mascara

I didn’t know the real name of this product because it is written in Japanese. I didn’t know for sure either if this mascara is waterproof or not. But one thing that I know for sure is I love the brush. It lengthens the lashes. It’s the perfect type of brush for short lashes. And I like the packaging - it’s so princess-y. all of the packaging of Jill Stuart is very classy girl, as if you are a Princess.

Body Shop Body Butter

This is the last empty product. I’m not the type of girl who loves body butter - I prefer body lotion. I used it because I got this as a gift. The smell was okay, but I didn’t really like the feeling after applying it on to my skin. I feel tacky. But other than that, I was pretty okay with this product.
